Block Paving & Tegula — Frequently Asked Questions

What laying patterns are available for block paving?

The most popular patterns are herringbone (strongest for driveways, interlocks under vehicle weight), basketweave (classic traditional look), and stretcher bond (modern linear appearance). We also create custom patterns and borders for a unique look.

Is block paving suitable for heavy vehicles?

Yes, when laid correctly on a properly prepared sub-base. Block paving in a herringbone pattern with a 60mm thickness is rated for regular vehicle use. For heavier vehicles like motorhomes, we use 80mm blocks with a deeper sub-base.

Can damaged blocks be replaced?

Yes, one of the great advantages of block paving is that individual blocks can be lifted and replaced without disturbing the surrounding area. This makes it easy to repair damage or access underground services.

How much does block paving cost?

Block paving typically costs £70–£110 per square metre installed, depending on the block type, laying pattern, and site access. Premium tumbled or aged-effect blocks cost more than standard blocks. We provide free, detailed quotes for every project.

What maintenance does block paving need?

Block paving needs occasional brushing to keep joints filled with kiln-dried sand, and an annual clean with a pressure washer. Resealing every few years helps prevent weed growth and keeps the colour looking fresh. We can provide maintenance advice during installation.
